GHRP-6 vs GHRP-2: Which Growth Hormone Releasing Peptide Is Right for You?

GHRP-6 produces strong appetite stimulation (useful for bulking) and moderate GH release. GHRP-2 produces stronger GH release with less appetite stimulation but more cortisol and prolactin elevation. Both are typically combined with a GHRH analogue for maximum effect.

The GHRP Family

Growth Hormone Releasing Peptides (GHRPs) are a class of synthetic peptides that stimulate GH release by binding to the ghrelin receptor (GHS-R1a) in the pituitary gland and hypothalamus. GHRP-6 and GHRP-2 are the two most widely studied and used members of this class, each with distinct pharmacological profiles that make them suitable for different applications.

GHRP-6

GHRP-6 is a hexapeptide that was among the first GHRPs to be extensively studied. It produces robust GH release and is notable for its strong appetite-stimulating effects — a consequence of its potent ghrelin receptor activation. This appetite stimulation can be a significant advantage for individuals in a caloric surplus phase (bulking) but a disadvantage for those trying to maintain or reduce body weight. Typical dosing: 100–200 mcg subcutaneously, 2–3 times daily, ideally in a fasted state.

GHRP-2

GHRP-2 is a synthetic hexapeptide that produces stronger GH release than GHRP-6 at equivalent doses, with less appetite stimulation. However, it produces greater elevations in cortisol and prolactin than GHRP-6. GHRP-2 is often preferred by individuals who want maximum GH stimulation without the intense hunger associated with GHRP-6. Typical dosing: 100–200 mcg subcutaneously, 2–3 times daily.

Combining with GHRH Analogues

Both GHRP-6 and GHRP-2 produce significantly larger GH pulses when combined with a GHRH analogue (CJC-1295 or Sermorelin). The synergistic effect of combining a GHRH + GHRP can increase GH release by 3–10 times compared to either peptide alone.

Choosing Between Them

Choose GHRP-6 if you are in a bulking phase and want appetite stimulation, or prefer a slightly milder GH stimulus. Choose GHRP-2 if you want maximum GH release, are in a cutting or recomposition phase, or are stacking with a GHRH analogue and want the strongest possible combination.
