CJC-1295 vs Sermorelin: Which GH Secretagogue Is Right for You?

Written by Adam Maggio | Medically reviewed by Dr. Sarah Chen, PharmD, BCPS

CJC-1295 (with DAC) provides sustained GH elevation over 1–2 weeks per injection, while Sermorelin mimics the natural pulsatile GH release pattern. Sermorelin is preferred for anti-aging and sleep optimization; CJC-1295 with DAC suits those who prefer less frequent dosing. Both are safer than synthetic HGH.

The GHRH Peptide Family

Both CJC-1295 and Sermorelin belong to the GHRH (growth hormone-releasing hormone) peptide family — they work by binding to GHRH receptors in the pituitary gland and stimulating the release of endogenous growth hormone. This mechanism is fundamentally different from synthetic HGH injections, which bypass the body's natural feedback mechanisms and can suppress endogenous GH production.

Sermorelin: The Natural Pulsatile Approach

Sermorelin is a 29-amino-acid fragment of endogenous GHRH that mimics the body's natural GH release pattern. When injected before bed, Sermorelin stimulates a single GH pulse that closely resembles the natural nocturnal GH surge. This pulsatile pattern is important for maintaining GH receptor sensitivity and preserving the body's natural feedback mechanisms. Typical dosing: 200–500 mcg subcutaneously before bed. Half-life: approximately 10–20 minutes. Benefits: most physiological GH stimulation pattern, excellent safety profile, well-studied in clinical trials, FDA-approved (though the original brand has been discontinued).

CJC-1295 Without DAC: The Preferred Option

CJC-1295 without DAC (also called Mod GRF 1-29) is a modified version of Sermorelin with improved stability and a longer half-life of approximately 30 minutes. It provides a more robust GH pulse than Sermorelin while still maintaining a pulsatile release pattern. This is the most commonly used form in clinical practice. Typical dosing: 100–200 mcg subcutaneously before bed (often combined with Ipamorelin for synergistic effects).

CJC-1295 With DAC: Extended Duration

CJC-1295 with DAC (Drug Affinity Complex) has a dramatically extended half-life of 6–8 days due to albumin binding. This produces sustained GH elevation rather than pulsatile release. While convenient (once or twice weekly dosing), the non-pulsatile GH elevation may reduce GH receptor sensitivity over time and is less physiological. Typical dosing: 1–2 mg once weekly. Best suited for: individuals who prioritize convenience over physiological precision.

Which to Choose?

For anti-aging and sleep optimization: Sermorelin or CJC-1295 without DAC (pulsatile, physiological). For body composition and performance: CJC-1295 without DAC + Ipamorelin (synergistic combination). For convenience: CJC-1295 with DAC (weekly dosing). For most users, the combination of CJC-1295 without DAC + Ipamorelin (100 mcg each before bed) represents the optimal balance of efficacy, physiological precision, and convenience.
